Membership

Mission Statement

ILADS is a nonprofit, international, multidisciplinary medical society, dedicated to the diagnosis and appropriate treatment of Lyme and its associated diseases. ILADS promotes understanding of Lyme and its associated diseases through research and education and strongly supports physicians and other health care professionals dedicated to advancing the standard of care for Lyme and its associated diseases.

Classes of Membership

There shall be three classes of membership in the Society:

  1. Voting members
  2. Nonvoting members to include Affiliate, Student, Retired, Honorary, and Sustaining subclasses of membership.
  3. Fellows

Voting Members

Voting members shall be those persons who have earned a recognized Doctorate degree (MD, DO, or PhD) and who have an interest in the care of patients with Lyme and associated diseases and/or are involved in research related to Lyme and associated diseases.
Voting members shall have a current license and meet the requirements of the credentials committee.
Voting members may serve on the Board of Directors, participate at all levels on committees, and hold elective office.
 

Nonvoting Members

Nonvoting members may serve on selected committees, but may not vote or hold elected offices in the Society.
Nonvoting members include Affiliate, Student, Retired, Honorary, and Sustaining subclasses of membership:
Affiliate members
Licensed allied healthcare professionals who have an interest in the diagnosis, treatment, management, and/or research of Lyme and associated diseases
Student members
Students enrolled in a full-time, healthcare training program who have an interest in learning about Lyme and associated diseases
Retired members
Persons with a doctorate degree (MD, DO, or PhD) who are retired from medical practice and/or research related to Lyme and associated diseases
Honorary members
Persons who have made an exceptional and distinguished contribution in education and/or research related to Lyme and associated diseases
Sustaining members
Individuals ineligible for medical categories of membership, who participate in industry related to Lyme and associated diseases and have an interest in the well being of this Society and its service to the medical community and the public
 

Fellows of the Society

The special status of Fellow of the Society shall be earned by those members who have:
  1. Completed the in-depth workshop on the diagnosis and management of Lyme and associated diseases
  2. Taken the examination prepared by the faculty of the workshop
  3. Demonstrated acquisition of the most up-to-date scientific knowledge as related to the care of patients with Lyme and associated diseases.
A certificate of accomplishment shall be given to members having achieved the special status of Fellow.
To maintain the status of Fellow, the in-depth workshop and examination must be taken every two years.
Acquiring the special status of Fellow does not affect voting privileges.
