ANNUAL ILADEF PIONEER AWARD DINNER

About The Award Dinner

If you would like to attend this event, please contact rjones@ilads.org to confirm there is space available. We continue to welcome donations to help train pediatric Lyme doctors.

ILADEF invites you to join us for a rare opportunity to attend a prestigious charity event and engage with some of the world’s leading Lyme disease researchers as we together address the number one vector-borne epidemic worldwide.

Join us on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, DC, to honor a pioneer, Charles R. Jones, MD, in the fight against Lyme disease. At the age of 85, Dr. Jones could have retired, but instead has devoted his remaining years to his active practice of pediatric and adolescent Lyme disease, making treatment available to many who would otherwise be without appropriate medical intervention. He has done this at substantial risk to himself, given the controversial, contentious debate in the medical field raging around the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease.

Always true to his principles, Dr. Jones rejects the term "chronic Lyme disease" in favor of the more precise "untreated or partially treated disseminated Lyme," for the children who cross his threshold, the majority of whose symptoms have progressed well beyond the early stages of disease. Dr. Jones has restored their hope ( and that of their parents!) not only with his astute clinical judgement and skill, but also with a few simple but caring phrases and a twinkle in his eye: "You're fixable," and "Patience and persistence is what it takes to get well."

It is fitting that we honor Dr. Jones at this year's gala!

Special Guest: Documentary Film Director, Andrew Abrahams Wilson. Premiering Under Our Skin 2: Emergence.

The International Lyme and Associated Diseases Educational Foundation (ILADEF) was founded in 1999 to promote education and research of tick-borne diseases. As a 501 C 3 Educational Foundation, donations to this entity are tax deductible. The premiere program of ILADEF is the physicians training program. Using designated volunteer training physicians from ILADS, this program has trained several hundred clinicians who are in turn treating thousands of Lyme patients.
