My Lyme Disease Journey

MY LYME DISEASE JOURNEYI was infected with Lyme disease at the age of 11 while at sleepaway camp in North Jersey. This was in 1991. I wasn’t diagnosed with Lyme until a reinfection occurred in 2009. I had suffered for 18 years before finally being diagnosed. I’ve been in remission since February of 2010 after 8 1/2 months on oral Doxycyline. I ended up losing my gallbladder in May of 2010 because of the medications. To this day, I suffer from sporadic brain fog, cognitive issues, horrible joint pain that comes and goes whenever it feels like it and neuropathy. I have also been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, PCOS and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. It makes me wonder if someone had treated me properly at age 11 instead of just brushing my mom and I aside, maybe I wouldn’t still have flare ups to this day.
